Bra Straps Digging Into Shoulders? Your Sports Bra Fit May Be the Problem

Still Tightening Your Bra Straps to Stop Bounce? Here’s Why It Doesn’t Work
If your boobs are bouncing, your first instinct might be to yank those shoulder straps tighter.
Makes sense. We’ve all done it.
But here’s the annoying truth: your bra straps are not supposed to do the heavy lifting.
In a well-fitted sports bra, most of the support should come from the band and overall bra structure, not from the straps digging into your shoulders like they’re trying to excavate a small trench.
Why tightening your bra straps doesn’t stop breast bounce
When you over-tighten your bra straps, more of the breast weight gets pulled onto your shoulders.
That pressure can lead to:
- sore shoulders
- neck pain
- red marks
- deep strap indents
- straps that still slip anyway
- and, rudely, boobs that may still bounce
So now you’ve got sore shoulders and bounce! What fun!
What are bra straps actually meant to do?
Bra straps help hold the bra in position, but they should not be the main source of support.
For bigger busts especially, the real support should come from:
- a firm, secure band
- strong fabric
- good cup coverage
- the right size
- a style designed for high-impact movement
- enough structure to control bounce without relying on shoulder pressure
If your straps are doing all the work, the bra probably isn’t.

And do not rely on the shoulder straps to support your breasts - look for a wide band (where the majority of support actually comes from) or a compression style.
A front fastening, wirefree style like the Enell SPORT has a wider band to balance breast weight and wider shoulder straps help reduce the pressure placed on the shoulder area.
